Description of the Area |
|
One side faces Mount Etna and the other one faces the Ionian blue sea. Linguaglossa, a characteristic Etnean town, is the ideal place for a stay both in the mountains and at the beach. Here evething is surrounded by a unique environment of extreme beauty without equal in the heart of the Mediterranean. The town is on the north-east slope of the most charming volcano of Europe, Mount Etna (3340 metres above sea level), and belongs to its National Park.
It is a sheer paradise for those who love walking and trekking, and for families and children, who can visit Linguaglossa's "Centro Visita Parco" (Tourist information) to obtain further, full information and to arrange guided excursions on the volcano.Among the many paths which lead to primordial scenarios is the ancient Ragabo pine forest, the craters and Mount Nero. However Linguaglossa is also a renowned winter resort, where one can do cross-country, downhill skiing and ski touring. It is only necessary to get to the Piano Provenzana (1860-2400 m) to feel the thrill of sliding on the Etna's ski slopes, whereas in the background the silhouette of Taormina stands out and further on the one of the Calabria. It is this wonderful mixture of
ice, fire and water that attracts tourists from all over the world and offers an incomparable chromatic contrast. Linguaglossa has also several, old, baroque palaces and churches, overlooking the typical roads paved with lava rocks, and is also an ideal starting point to discover other beautiful towns, like Zafferana, Pedara and Trecastagni.
